What we collect from business premises

A regular commercial bin contract covers day-to-day rubbish. It does not cover the desk that is being replaced, the pallets that have built up behind the unit, or the entire contents of an office when a lease ends. That is where a licensed man-and-van collection is faster and, for anything short of a weekly contract, cheaper.

  • Office furniture — desks, pedestals, chairs, meeting tables, filing cabinets, partitions (see also office clearance and removals)
  • IT and electrical equipment — PCs, monitors, printers, servers, phones, kettles and microwaves, all handled under the WEEE regulations
  • Confidential paper — collected in sacks or cabinets and passed to a certified shredding stream, with a certificate of destruction
  • Shop and retail fittings — shelving, racking, counters, mannequins, signage, flooring after a refit
  • Stock write-offs and returns — damaged, expired or discontinued stock disposed of and documented
  • Packaging and pallets — cardboard, polystyrene, stretch wrap, broken pallets
  • Workshop and trade waste — offcuts, scrap metal, bagged rubble from a fit-out (see builders waste removal)
  • Landlord and agent clear-outs — units, offices and shops left full by an outgoing tenant

We are not a hazardous-waste contractor: no chemicals, asbestos, clinical waste or oils. We will say so on the phone rather than on the day.

Businesses that use us around Howden and Goole

Howden and Goole sit on a working corridor — the M62, the port, the industrial estates at Capitol Park, Glews Hollow and Rawcliffe Bridge, and the offices and retail units in both town centres. Most of our commercial work comes from a handful of situations.

  • Offices moving or downsizing

The furniture that is not going to the new premises, the archive that has been digitised, the kitchen that is being replaced.

  • Shops and salons refitting

Old fixtures out before the fitters arrive, then the packaging and offcuts out after they leave.

  • Landlords of commercial units

Warehouse, office and retail units handed back full. Cleared and documented so the deposit conversation is short.

  • Schools, surgeries and care settings

Furniture and equipment replaced in bulk over a holiday or a weekend, with WEEE and confidential-waste paperwork.

  • Trades and small manufacturers

Regular collections of packaging, pallets and scrap that a wheelie bin contract does not cover.

  • Pubs, cafés and restaurants

Old furniture, kitchen equipment and fridges cleared during a refurbishment or a change of hands.

Commercial waste collection prices — 2026 guide

One-off collections are priced by the van load with any WEEE or confidential-waste handling itemised; repeat collections are quoted as a per-visit rate. All prices exclude VAT and are confirmed in writing before the first visit. These are typical figures for premises in Howden, Goole, Selby and the M62 corridor.

CollectionTypical scopeGuide price (ex VAT)
Small collection (up to 1/4 van)A few desks and chairs, a run of shelving, a week of packaging£120 – £180
Half vanA small office or a shop refit£220 – £300
Full van loadA floor of office furniture, a unit clear-out£380 – £480
Multi-load clearanceWhole premises, several visitsFrom £110 per load on a fixed total
WEEE itemsMonitors, PCs, printers, fridgesFrom £8 per item; fridges £20 – £30
Confidential paperSacks or cabinets, certificate of destructionFrom £6 per sack
Scheduled repeat collectionWeekly, fortnightly or monthly van visitFrom £85 per visit

Cardboard, clean pallets and scrap metal have recycling value and can bring a load price down — tell us what is in the pile. Compare with a commercial skip: a 12-yard skip in the Goole area costs £320–£420 plus a permit, sits on your yard for a week and still needs your staff to fill it.

How a business collection is arranged

  1. Site photos or a walk-round

Most quotes are done from photos. For a whole-premises clearance Charlotte visits, usually within two working days.

  2. Written quote and method

A fixed price, what is included, how WEEE and confidential waste will be handled, and the paperwork you will receive.

  3. Collection at a time that suits trading

Early morning, after close or at the weekend for shops and offices that cannot have a van at the door mid-morning.

  4. Documentation

Waste Transfer Note, WEEE consignment details and certificate of destruction where applicable, emailed the same day.

Waste streams, bins and Simpler Recycling — what your business has to separate

Since March 2025, workplaces in England with ten or more employees must separate their waste into defined streams rather than putting everything in one general waste bin. Businesses with fewer than ten follow from 31 March 2027. The rules are usually called Simpler Recycling, and they apply to the waste your premises produces day to day.

The streams you must keep apart:

  • Dry recyclables — paper and card, plastic, metal and glass. These can be collected together in one bin, except that paper and card must be kept separate from the rest unless your collector can show they are sorted afterwards.
  • Food waste — any business producing food waste, whatever the quantity, needs a separate collection. This is the one that catches out offices with a staff kitchen.
  • Residual general waste — whatever genuinely cannot be recycled. The aim of the rules is to shrink this to as little as possible, because it is the most expensive stream per tonne and the one that still goes to landfill or energy recovery.

Where a bin contract is the right answer, and where we are. If you need wheeled bins emptied on a fixed weekly or fortnightly round, a bin contract from a licensed waste-management company is what you want, and we will say so. CL Clearances covers the part a bin round does not: the one-off collections, the bulky items, the furniture, the IT, the pallets and packaging that will not fit in a bin, and the whole-premises clearances. Many of our commercial customers run both — a bin contract for the daily waste, and us for everything else.

Either way the same duty of care applies, the same Waste Transfer Note is required, and the same registration should be checked before you hand anything over.

  • Dry recyclables

Paper and card, plastic, metal and glass — separated, baled where there is volume, and recycled rather than landfilled.

  • General waste

The residual stream. Charged by weight per tonne, which is why keeping recyclables out of it is the cheapest thing a business can do.

  • Bulky and one-off loads

Furniture, fittings, stock and pallets that no bin will take — collected by the van, priced by the load.

  • Cost-effective by volume

Cardboard, clean pallets and scrap metal have recycling value and bring a load price down. Tell us what is in the pile.

Your duty of care as a business

Under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 every business must ensure its waste is stored safely, handed only to an authorised carrier, and recorded on a Waste Transfer Note kept for two years. From 2025 the "Simpler Recycling" rules also require most workplaces in England to separate paper and card, dry recyclables and food waste. CL Clearances is registered with the Environment Agency as an upper-tier carrier and every collection is documented, so your file stands up to an inspection.

Commercial waste collection FAQs

  • How much does commercial waste collection cost?

For a one-off collection in the Howden and Goole area a quarter van load is £120–£180 ex VAT, a full van £380–£480, and scheduled repeat collections start from £85 per visit. WEEE items and confidential paper are itemised. It is usually cheaper than a commercial skip once the permit and your staff's time filling it are counted.

  • Do you provide a Waste Transfer Note?

Yes, with every commercial collection, as the law requires. It names CL Clearances, licence CBDU291452, the waste description and quantity, and the disposal site. Keep it for two years; we keep a copy as well.

  • Can you dispose of old computers and monitors?

Yes. IT equipment is collected under the WEEE regulations and taken to an approved treatment facility. If the equipment holds data, we can arrange physical destruction of the drives with a certificate, or you can remove them first — many businesses prefer to.

  • What are the new recycling rules for businesses?

Since March 2025, workplaces in England with ten or more employees must separate food waste, paper and card, and other dry recyclables from general waste; smaller businesses follow from 2027. This applies to your regular bins. One-off clearances and bulky items are outside that regime but still need a licensed carrier and a transfer note, which is what we provide.

  • Can you collect outside trading hours?

Yes. Shops, salons, cafés and offices are usually cleared before opening, after close, or on a Saturday or Sunday so there is no van at the door while you are trading. It is agreed in the quote.

  • Do you do office clearances as well as waste collections?

Yes — a full office clearance, including moving what is being kept to new premises, is covered on our office clearance and removals page. This page is for the waste and disposal side: one-off collections, repeat pick-ups and everything that needs a transfer note.

  • Which areas do you cover for business waste?

Howden, Goole and the M62 corridor as a priority, including Capitol Park, Rawcliffe Bridge and the Goole port estates; then Selby, Hull, Beverley, York, Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Pontefract and Wakefield. Larger contracts further afield are quoted individually.
