What a garage, loft or shed clearance involves
These spaces share a problem: things go in and nothing comes out. A clearance is the reset — everything out, sorted into keep / reuse / recycle / dispose with you, the keep pile put back tidily if you want it, and the rest gone on the van the same day.
Garages — old furniture, tools, bikes, paint tins, tyres, timber offcuts, the freezer that stopped working, boxes from the last house move, garden equipment. We can leave the garage empty, or empty and swept with the things you are keeping stacked along one wall.
Lofts — boxes, suitcases, Christmas decorations, old carpet and underlay, water tanks and pipework left by plumbers, and the insulation-covered odds and ends nobody wants to touch. We bring our own ladders, lighting and dust masks and work from the hatch down. Old loft insulation can be bagged and removed as well.
Sheds and outbuildings — contents cleared, and if the shed is past saving, dismantled and taken away: timber sheds, metal sheds, summerhouses, lean-tos and greenhouses. Concrete bases can be broken out for an extra charge.
Cellars and under-stairs cupboards — the same job in a different direction: carried up rather than down.

What comes out of a typical garage or loft
Some of it needs a specific route. Knowing which is why a licensed carrier is worth using rather than a mate with a trailer.
Paint, solvents and chemicals
Dried paint can go as general waste; wet paint, thinners, weedkiller and pool chemicals cannot. We separate them and take them to the right facility, or advise on the council’s hazardous drop-off.
Tyres
Banned from landfill and from ordinary skips. A few tyres are collected at a small per-tyre charge and go to a tyre recycler.
Freezers and electricals
The garage freezer, old power tools, the broken TV — all WEEE, all taken to an approved facility.
Timber, metal and bikes
Offcuts, old frames, scaffold boards and bikes are recycled; a decent bike or tool set is offered for reuse first.
Old loft insulation
Mineral wool and old fibre insulation bagged on site and removed. If we suspect anything older that might contain asbestos we stop and tell you — we do not handle it.
Things worth money
Tools, vintage bikes, garden machinery and the occasional box of records. We point them out rather than load them, and can deliver them to a buyer or auction house for you.

Tyres are £5–£8 each, fridges and freezers £15–£25 for WEEE processing, and hazardous liquids are quoted per container. If the contents are mostly reusable or recyclable — timber, metal, a bike collection — the load price comes down.

How much does a garage clearance cost?
A single garage in East Yorkshire typically costs £200–£340 to clear in 2026, a double garage or workshop £340–£600. The price depends on how much van space the contents take and whether there are tyres, chemicals or freezers that need a separate disposal route. Charlotte quotes a fixed price from a photo.
How much is a loft clearance?
A small loft with boxes and bags is £140–£220; a full loft with decades of storage, old carpet and a water tank is £220–£400. Removing old loft insulation is £180–£350 for an average house. Prices include ladders, lighting, carrying everything down and licensed disposal.
Can you take the shed away as well as the contents?
Yes. Timber and metal sheds, summerhouses and greenhouses are dismantled with hand tools and a saw, loaded and taken for recycling. A 6×4 to 10×8 shed is £150–£320 including its contents. A concrete base can be broken out and removed as inert waste for an extra charge.
What do you do with paint, chemicals and tyres?
Dried, solid paint goes as general waste. Wet paint, solvents, weedkillers and similar are hazardous and go to a specialist facility or the council's hazardous waste drop-off — we separate and advise. Tyres are collected at £5–£8 each and taken to a tyre recycler; they cannot go in a skip or to landfill.
Do I need to sort anything before you come?
No. Most people find sorting easier once things are out in daylight, so we do it together on the day. If you already know the whole lot is going, tell us and we just load.
Is old loft insulation dangerous to remove?
Modern mineral-wool and glass-fibre insulation is an irritant but not hazardous; we bag it on site wearing masks and gloves. Very old insulation in properties from the 1960s and earlier can occasionally contain asbestos. If we see anything that looks like it, we stop and recommend a survey rather than disturb it.
