What makes clearing a Barnsley house different?

Could the council tip or bulky collection do the job instead?
For a handful of items, possibly. Barnsley Council lists four household waste recycling centres: Goldthorpe on Nicholas Lane (S63 9AT), Penistone off Sheffield Road (S36 6HH), Smithies on Smithies Lane (S71 1NL) and Worsbrough on West Street, Worsbrough Dale (S70 5DJ). When we checked in October 2026, Smithies was temporarily closed for drainage works, so look at the council page before you set off. You need a recycling centre pass or a booking, and a Barnsley pass also lets you use the recycling centres in Doncaster. Vans need a vehicle pass, which allows 12 visits a year, and a hired van needs a one-off booking (council FAQs).
The council’s bulky waste collection costs £28 for up to two items from its standard list and £8.75 for each extra item, up to twelve. Items have to be put out within your property boundary, collection is within 12 working days of payment, and landlords are quoted separately.
That is good value for a sofa and a bed. It is not designed for a whole house, a cellar or a loft, and it leaves the carrying and the sorting to you.
