What a garden clearance from CL Clearances includes
A garden clearance is the removal of everything a garden has accumulated that you no longer want — living, dead or man-made — and the disposal of it by a licensed carrier. It is not landscaping or regular maintenance: it is the reset that gets a garden back to a state where a gardener, a tenant or a buyer can take it on.

Soil, rubble and paving are heavier than green waste and are priced by the bag or by weight. Fence panels, decking and sheds are mostly treated timber, which goes to a wood-recycling stream rather than compost.

Cut, dig, dismantle, load
We work from the far end back to the gate so the van can be loaded as we go. Structures are taken down with hand tools and a reciprocating saw.
Sweep and dispose
Paths swept, gate shut. Green waste to compost, timber and metal to recycling, the rest to a licensed transfer station.
Green waste, recycling and the law
Garden waste is still waste in the eyes of the law. Tipping grass cuttings or hedge trimmings over a fence onto farmland, a lane or a verge counts as fly-tipping, and the householder is liable if a carrier they paid does it on their behalf. Everything CL Clearances removes from a garden is taken under our Environment Agency waste carrier registration, CBDU291452, and a Waste Transfer Note is available for landlords and agents.
Where it goes: green waste to an in-vessel composting site, where it becomes soil improver; untreated timber and pallets to wood recycling; treated fence panels and decking to a separate wood stream; metal from greenhouses, furniture and trampolines to scrap; plastic pots and garden furniture to hard-plastic recycling where the material allows. Soil and rubble are taken as inert waste. We keep the streams separate on the van so the transfer station can actually recycle them.

How much should a garden clearance cost?
In East Yorkshire in 2026 a small terraced garden is typically £180–£280, a medium semi-detached garden £280–£450 and a large or heavily overgrown garden £450–£850. The price reflects time on site and how many van loads of waste come out. Sheds, decking and fencing add £90–£350 depending on size.
How long does it take to clear an overgrown garden?
A small back garden that has been left for a year is usually half a day. A medium garden with brambles and a shed to dismantle is a full day. Gardens that have been untouched for several years, or with a lot of structures, take two days and two or three van loads. Charlotte gives a time estimate with the quote.
Do you take the green waste away or leave it bagged?
We take it. Everything cut, dug out or dismantled goes on the van the same day and is disposed of at a licensed site. You are not left with bags for the council or a bonfire.
Can you remove a shed, greenhouse or decking?
Yes. Timber sheds, metal sheds, aluminium and glass greenhouses, decking, pergolas and fencing are dismantled with hand tools and a saw, loaded and recycled. Concrete shed bases and posts set in concrete can be broken out and removed as inert waste for an extra charge.
Will you clear a garden as part of a house clearance?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper to do both in one visit. For bereavement and probate properties the garden is often the last thing a family has time for; we clear it alongside the house and keep anything you ask us to — a particular shrub, a bench, the pots that are going to a relative.
Is it illegal to dump garden waste in the woods or on a verge?
Yes. Garden waste is controlled waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and dumping it anywhere without a permit is fly-tipping, with fines of up to £400 on the spot and unlimited on conviction. It also spreads invasive plants. Use a licensed carrier or the council's garden waste service.
