What counts as builders waste — and what we take
Builders waste is anything left over from construction, renovation or demolition work. In a house it usually means the old fittings that came out and the packaging and off-cuts from what went in. Most of it is heavy, some of it needs a separate disposal route, and none of it fits in the wheelie bin.
- Rubble and hardcore — bricks, blocks, concrete, mortar, broken paving, in bags or loose
- Plasterboard and plaster — off-cuts and stripped-out board; kept separate because it cannot go to landfill with mixed waste
- Old kitchens — units, worktops, sinks, appliances (WEEE for the electricals)
- Old bathrooms — baths, basins, toilets, tiles, shower trays and screens
- Timber — joists, skirting, doors, flooring, stud work, pallets
- Tiles, ceramics and glass — floor and wall tiles, windows and doors
- Metal — radiators, copper and steel pipe, guttering, old boilers (drained)
- Packaging — cardboard, polystyrene, plastic wrap and pallets from deliveries

We do not take asbestos (including old Artex, soffits or garage roofs where it is suspected), gas bottles, or chemical waste. If we think a material might contain asbestos we say so and stop — it needs a licensed asbestos contractor, not a van.

Builders waste removal prices — 2026 guide
Builders waste is heavier than household waste and some of it costs more to dispose of, so it is priced by weight and type as well as volume. These guide prices assume the waste is accessible — a drive, a garage, a ground-floor room — within 20 miles of Howden. Fixed quote from photos before we come.

A 6-yard builders skip in the Goole and Howden area costs £230–£300 plus a £30–£60 council permit if it goes on the road, takes up to a week to arrive and exchange, and you load it. Metal — radiators, pipe, boilers — has scrap value and reduces the price; tell us if there is any.

Where renovation waste goes — and why plasterboard is different
Clean rubble, bricks and concrete go to an inert waste site where they are crushed for reuse as aggregate — the cheapest stream, which is why keeping rubble unmixed keeps your price down. Timber goes to wood recycling, metal to scrap, cardboard and clean plastics to recycling, and genuinely mixed waste to a licensed transfer station for sorting.
Plasterboard is the one to watch. Since 2009 gypsum-based waste cannot be landfilled with biodegradable waste because it produces hydrogen sulphide gas; it has to go to a dedicated plasterboard recycling stream, and transfer stations charge more for it and reject loads where it is mixed in. That is why it is priced per bag and why we ask you to keep it separate if you can — and why a skip company will refuse a mixed skip with plasterboard in it or add a surcharge.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 the person producing the waste — the homeowner or the contractor — has a duty of care to see it goes to a licensed carrier. Fly-tipped rubble on a lane outside Snaith or Rawcliffe is traced back to the job it came from more often than people expect, and the householder is liable.

What is classed as builders waste?
Anything produced by construction, renovation or demolition: rubble, bricks and concrete, plasterboard, timber, tiles, old kitchens and bathrooms, radiators and pipework, insulation, and the packaging from new materials. It is heavier than household waste and some streams — plasterboard in particular — need separate disposal, which is why it is priced differently.
How much does it cost to remove builders waste?
In East Yorkshire in 2026, bagged rubble is £4–£6 a sack with a £90 minimum, a quarter van of mixed renovation waste £140–£190, and a full van (about a tonne) £400–£520. Plasterboard is £5–£8 per bag. A full old kitchen alone is £180–£280 and a bathroom suite £120–£200. CL Clearances quotes a fixed price from photos.
Is it cheaper than a skip?
For up to about a van load, usually yes once the skip permit, the wait and your own loading time are counted — a 6-yard builders skip is £230–£300 plus permit around Goole and Howden. For very heavy jobs (several tonnes of concrete) a skip or grab lorry is the better tool and we will say so.
Can you take plasterboard?
Yes, as long as it is kept separate or can be separated on site. Plasterboard cannot go to landfill with mixed waste and is priced per bag because the recycling stream charges more. Mixed loads with plasterboard hidden in them get rejected at the transfer station, so please tell us it is there.
Do you take asbestos or Artex?
No. Asbestos cement sheets, old soffits, garage roofs, floor tiles and textured coatings from before 2000 may contain asbestos and need a licensed asbestos contractor. If we suspect it, we stop and tell you rather than load it.
Can you collect from a building site or a trade customer?
Yes. Small builders, kitchen and bathroom fitters and landlords around Goole, Selby, Hull and York use us for overflow and end-of-job collections, with a Waste Transfer Note for their duty-of-care file and a monthly invoice if preferred.
Do I need to bag the rubble?
Bagged is quicker to load and therefore slightly cheaper, but loose rubble in a garage or on a drive is fine — we bring sacks and a shovel. Very heavy loose material may be priced by weight instead.
