What we collect
This is the service for one to five bulky items rather than a whole house. If the list is longer than that, the rubbish removal page prices by the van load and will usually be cheaper.

- Mattresses and beds — single to super-king, divan bases, bed frames, bunk beds, cots

Anything in good condition is offered to a local reuse outlet or charity before it goes anywhere near a tip.
Furniture and appliance removal prices — 2026
Prices are per item, collected from inside the property, within about 15 miles of Howden (Goole, Selby, Snaith, Market Weighton, Brough and the villages). Hull, Beverley, York, Doncaster and Scunthorpe add a small travel element that is included in the fixed quote. Two or more items on the same visit are discounted.

For comparison, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's bulky item collection is a fixed fee for up to a set number of items, collected from the kerb on a scheduled day that is often two to three weeks away and excludes fridges and freezers in some areas. We collect from wherever the item is, on a day you choose, and take the fridge.
Why not just leave it out for the council?
The wait
Council bulky collections around Goole, Hull, Selby and Doncaster run two to four weeks out. A new sofa arriving Thursday does not wait that long.
The kerb
Council crews take from the boundary of the property, not from the back bedroom. Getting a king-size mattress and a wardrobe down the stairs and outside is the job.
The exclusions
Some collections exclude fridges, freezers, glass-fronted units and anything a two-person crew cannot lift. We take all of it.
The neighbours
A sofa on the pavement for a fortnight attracts other people’s rubbish and, on some streets, a fixed penalty for the householder.

Good furniture goes to reuse; appliances to WEEE or scrap; the rest to a licensed transfer station under licence CBDU291452.
Where sofas, mattresses and fridges actually end up
A sofa is not one material. The frame is timber, the springs are steel, the foam and fabric are usually landfill unless a re-use shop will take the whole piece. Mattresses are similar — springs out for scrap, foam and fabric processed separately at a mattress recycling facility where one is available. Fridges and freezers are classed as hazardous until the refrigerant gas and oil have been removed, which is why they cannot go in a skip or a general load: they go to a WEEE-approved treatment site, and the surcharge on a fridge collection is that site's fee.
CL Clearances keeps those streams separate on the van so the transfer station can process them properly. Furniture in decent condition is offered to local reuse outlets first; in a typical month a fair number of sofas, tables and wardrobes we collect are back in use in someone else's home within the week.

How much does it cost to have a sofa removed?
In East Yorkshire in 2026 a two-seater sofa collected from inside the house costs £50–£70 with CL Clearances, and a three-seater or corner sofa £70–£110. The price includes carrying it out, dismantling if needed and licensed disposal. A second item collected on the same visit is discounted.
What is the best way to get rid of an old sofa?
If it is in good condition, a reuse charity may collect it free but will usually insist on a fire-safety label and a kerbside handover. If it is worn, stained or missing its label, a licensed collection is the practical route: it is taken from the room it is in, on a date you choose, and disposed of legally. Never leave it on the street — that is fly-tipping.
Do you take fridges and freezers?
Yes. Fridges and freezers are collected and taken to a WEEE-approved facility where the refrigerant and oil are extracted safely. The £60–£90 price includes that facility's fee. Please empty and defrost it if you can; if it has failed and cannot be defrosted, we take it as it is.
Will you take a mattress?
Yes, any size, £40–£60, from the bedroom it is in. Mattresses are bagged on collection so nothing transfers to the van or the stairs, and go to a mattress recycling stream where one is available at the transfer station.
Can you collect from an upstairs flat with no lift?
Yes. Upstairs collections are normal in Hull, York and Goole. For very heavy items on high floors — an American fridge-freezer on the third floor — Charlotte brings a second person, and the quote says so up front.
Do I need to be home?
Not necessarily. Many collections are done for landlords and relatives with a key safe or a neighbour holding a key. We send a photo of the empty space and, if the property is being left secure, confirm the door is locked.
Does the council do this for free?
Some councils offer free or low-cost bulky collections for residents on certain benefits; most charge a fixed fee for a limited number of items, collected from the kerb on a scheduled date. If you are not in a hurry and can get the item outside, that is worth checking. If you need it gone this week and from inside the house, that is what we do.
